A brand new street installation by Laura Keeble (remember the famous Hirst’s skull prank?). Now Versace has to deal with Medusa in person…

“The installation of Medusa outside the Versace store was to discuss the ownership of Medusa by the fashion house. A relationship between the single Versace mannequin within the store shopfront and Medusa also reflected the acceptance of what is beautiful and the outcasting of what is deemed ugly, by those that consider themselves an authority. Medusa with her shopping bags turned to stone by the very horror that is herself reflected in the use and ownership of an ancient icon to sell goods.”

Endless story of an endless column


The Endless Column (1938) è una scultura monumentale di Costantin Brancusi e se ne sta placida in Romania. Ma la sua capacità evocativa circola per il mondo e ispira altri artisti. Quest’opera riesce a rappresentare tutta la scultura moderna, a raccontare ancora oggi l’utopia di un’arte che aspira alle vertiginose altezze dei cieli (un’arte infinita, ininterrotta, spirituale nel più profondo dei sensi). Le “cover” della colonna si ispirano ai viaggi nel tempo, ma anche al kebab…

E’ proprio così. Le frasi svolazzano da tutte le parti, come schiaffeggiate da una folata di vento impertinente. Le storie si mescolano, i sentieri si biforcano, i pensieri scendono giù e tornano su senza mai stancarsi, neanche prendessero l’ascensore.

Silver future

Certo, mi ci sono volute quasi due ore di coda per entrare nel padiglione tedesco, ma il lavoro di Isa Genzken era senz’altro da vedere. Bizzarro, kitsch, plasticoso e riciclato. Inquietante e scombinato.
Il futuro che avevamo immaginato argentato e scintillante ora sembra avvolto nel domopak. Confezionato, a lunga conservazione e nonostante tutto, scaduto…
