Un incontro con l’artista canadese dedicato all’analisi del rapporto tra esperienza umana e Intelligenza Artificiale
Jon Rafman è un artista, regista e saggista canadese il cui lavoro, poliedrico e innovativo, ha la capacità di analizzare nel profondo l’esperienza umana e il suo rapporto, diretto o indiretto, con l’Intelligenza Artificiale. Se molti artisti della sua generazione sono concentrati sulla modalità in cui la tecnologia influenza la nostra coscienza, Rafman suggerisce nei suoi lavori che in verità è stato un cambiamento nella nostra coscienza a modificare l’utilizzo delle nuove tecnologie.
In conversazione con la curatrice e critica d’arte Valentina Tanni, Rafman ripercorre alcune tappe fondamentali del suo percorso artistico, da lavori come Erysichthon, amara parodia della comunicazione odierna a Open Hearted Warrior, moderno incubo tecnologico, per arrivare infine al suo ultimo lavoro: Shadowbanned. Punctured Sky, un progetto che prende le mosse da alcuni interrogativi: cosa succede quando creiamo delle macchine che riproducono la mimica del cervello umano, quando noi stessi non sappiamo come funziona la nostra mente? Quanto è in grado di imparare realmente una macchina e che ruolo hanno il contesto, la cultura e la tradizione? Cosa deve imparare un robot per diventare umano?

A talk with the Canadian artist devoted to analysing the relationship between the human experience and Artificial Intelligence
Jon Rafman is a Canadian artist, director and essayist whose innovative and eclectic work has the ability to delve deep into the human experience and its direct or indirect relationship with Artificial Intelligence. While many artists of his generation have focused on the ways in which technology influences our conscience, in his work, Rafman suggests that it was actually a change in our conscience to modify the use of new technologies.
In conversation with the art critic and curator Valentina Tanni,Rafman goes through some of the key stages of his artistic journey beginning with works such as Erysichthon, a bitter parody of today’s communication and Open Hearted Warrior, a contemporary technological nightmare, to his latest work: Shadowbanned. Punctured Sky, a project that stems from questions such as: what happens when we create machines that mimic the human brain when we ourselves do not know how our mind works? How much is a machine able to learn and which role do context, culture and tradition play? What does a robot need to learn in order to become human?
