Patina Machine

The Patina Machine is an automated, agentic video essay pipeline created by Dutch artist Constant Dullaart. It functions as an autonomous system that continuously generates and publishes unique algorithmic video essays on a recurring cycle, exploring themes of machine authorship, prompt culture, and platform capitalism.

“The entire system operates as a continuous loop: generate, validate, publish, repeat. Conceptual Framework The essays explore themes of manufactured authenticity, simulated imperfection, and the commodification of trust in AI-mediated culture. Drawing on Barthes, Benjamin, Baudrillard, McLuhan, and contemporary media theory, they examine how the markers of “realness” are themselves becoming products of algorithmic design. The project itself embodies this tension: an automated system producing critical discourse about automation, generating arguments about authenticity through entirely artificial means.”

The Subject Changes

“The Subject Changes is a poetic live simulation of a capricious character, endlessly shape-shifting while negotiating his/her ambiguous world. The character sets out on an indefinite dérive – a frantic exploration – where fragile relationships with the world-cum-stage and its occupants are established or broken down. His/her state is ornately reflected in a constantly mutating attire, a fluctuating embodied masquerade — the virtual body as an encoded aesthetic artefact.”

Created by Vienna based Depart (Leonhard Lass and Gregor Ladenhauf).

Content is Queen is a generative video painting by Sergio Albiac:

“At the same time, is a paradoxical dialogue and strange marriage between the banal and utterly majestic: to create the series, the most popular (in a truly democratic sense) internet videos of a given moment are used as the input of a generative process that ‘paints’ with action the image of a contemporary Queen.”
